First off I want to THANK everyone who replied to the first 'ASW' with positive feedback and request to subscribe!
Some also have looked at their pet food labels and decided to switch to Canidae Foods. THANKS from me and from your best friend.
This issue will start to clear up many false conceptions you might have of the food you are feeding your pup everyday. I will start educating you on how to read between the lines of your
pet food labels and exactly what meat by products are... Or my favorite MEAT DIGEST It even sounds DISGUSTING! I will ask you to send me the first 5 or 6 ingredients on your pet food label and I will start to unveil
the mystery surrounding the pet food companies. We can go over a different label each issue. I promise I won't use your real names in the newsletter unless you force me to. When you find out what you have been
feeding your dog day after day you wouldn't want anyone to know your identity! There are some excellent foods out there but many more terrible ones. To wet your appetite, (pun intended) I will tell you the top three
ingredients in a very popular dog food. If you didn't know, one of the only requirements manufacturers have to abide by is to list their ingredients in order of the percentage in the food.
The first one is CORN. The second is Chicken by product meal The third is Soybean meal

There is nothing wrong with corn; if processed correctly is an excellent and cheap source of carbohydrates. The
most nutritious type is whole yellow corn. Since we are not sure of what type or how it was processed my only problem is that it is listed first for a carnivore. Many Shepherds show a an allergic reaction to corn so I would
reccomend you stay away from it.

Let's get into the chicken by product meal. Yuck! By products are (are you ready)? Heads (including beaks),
intestines, feet and feathers! Double Yuck! I hope nobody was munching a chicken leg while reading this… Keep in mind this is listed as the second ingredient! Does anyone see any actual meat yet?

The third ingredient is soybean meal. A bean. Being a bean you remember the childhood limerick don't you?
Please don't be offended if you still sing that limerick! Yes, it causes gas, torsion and bloat! The only thing it
adds to the food is the high protein that the dog can't utilize much because it is a plant protein. Our dogs need their protein from MEAT!
According to AAFCO, (The pet food regulatory officials) This Company has done nothing wrong. As for the nutrition for our BEST FRIENDS they have Failed miserably! Okay, let's take a look at how they failed. This
product might say 25% protein. They are probably legally right! How much is the dog receiving? That's where this food has failed.
#1 ingredient CORN-No Protein there.
#2 ingredient Chicken by product meal-Yes we have some protein from the Feathers! Not very usable by the
carnivore. Still no meat protein. Of course, dogs in the wild eat an occasional feather and intestine or two, but not every day after day as their only source of nutrition.
#3 ingredient Soybean Meal-Lots of protein here but again it is a vegetable based protein extremely hard for the dogs carnivore system to digest. How much of the protein does the dog get?
WHAT THE HECK IS MEAT DIGEST!
Okay, you asked for it! Take the chicken leg out of your mouth and step away from the carcass!
Meat digest is everything left on the processing plant floor at the end of the day! Including but not limited to FECES AND DISEASED OR CANCEROUS TISSUE! Need I say more!
NO SOY AND NO MEAT DIGEST!
Next week we will make sure there are no Known Carcinogens in your pup's food!
You want to know what Pet Food we were talking about above? SCIENCE DIET!
Two facts I learned recently… Science Diet has had 9 formula changes since Colgate Palmolive bought it out in 1986. Each formula change resulted in a less expensive product. You form your own conclusion.
The other fact I learned was that Vets get very little nutrition instruction.

Please visit http://ccsgsd.com often. I am always changing and adding interesting GSD stuff! I have added online
secure payment options with PayPal that I have used many times without a problem.

One more tidbit? Okay you twisted my arm. The #1 ingredient in IAMES?
Chicken by product meal!

There is so much to talk about I need to pace myself! I will do these letters weekly until we all get up to speed on
dog nutrition. Then we can discuss more interesting topics but this is so important. Poor nutrition is the cause of many dog illnesses! It is also the number one cause of premature death!
Everyone wants to blame the breeder when they have problems with their dogs but the owners must start taking some of the blame! I hope we correct that with this newsletter.

LISTEN UP EVERYONE!
