Last Issue we discussed the many carcinogenic additives that can be included in our commercial dog food that we purchase for our dogs.
We know now to choose a dog food that is preserved naturally, has no by-products or chemical additives, meat or meat meal as the number one ingredient and that very few dry dog foods can deliver the nutrition that our pups need. I hope by this time you have examined your dog food labels and are at least considering a switch to a product like Canidae Pet Food. Along with the supplements I suggest, Canidae is a good choice to feed your dogs. I discussed how our meat eating dogs need and get their green veggies in the wild and how we can supplement their diets with raw leafy vegetables.
This issue will discuss the benefits of supplementing natural foods to your dogs diet and a suggestion on where to begin.
Natural Foods to Feed Our Dogs
List Of Some Foods Suitable To Feed Normal Healthy Dogs
Feeding these foods will produce maximum health, work, reproductive capacity, longevity and optimal growth. As a breeder I hope to educate all dog owners but especially owners of CCS Pups the importance of high
quality nutrition for our dogs health. I now insist on at least a high quality commercial dog food for my guarantees to be upheld and as many of the supplemental foods
as possible.

CCS Basic Supplement (This has been adjusted)
In a food processor add: 1to 2cup (loosely shredded) greens or veggies from above list. 1 cup oil (here you can use an oil from above)
A few cloves of crushed garlic (Natural flea deterrent among many health benefits) 4000 IU of vitamin E (optional depending on oil used) 5000 IU of vitamin C
This formula should change by varying ingredients to include as many different fruits and vegetables on the list. I have found that over ripe fruits are more accepted by my dogs.
One more thing I add to their morning meal is a tablespoon of natural yogurt (probiotics) to promote nutrition utilization and digestion. (Some dogs hate this but if you add
gradually they will learn to accept it. If all else fails, give capsules but be sure to include it in their diet!)
Add to your dog's food once per day gradually until you reach a tablespoon portion.
Training Tip #2
Review last Issue's Training Tip on dominance and practice often!
Before getting into commands and throughout the dog's life I always develop a more intimate relationship through grooming and massage. This reinforces the social interaction between pack leader (You) and your
pup. He will follow you as a willing participant in your pack when he sees you as a source of trust and social fulfillment that all dogs need.
All people in the 'pack' should take turns doing this so the dog is more willing to accept direction from all in the household and most important a bond with each individual. Do not allow anyone to threaten this trust including young children. This is an excellent way to relax a dog that is displaying a 'hyper' personality. Many times this behavior stems from not understanding what you require and your inconsistent reaction to him. The massage will relay your total acceptance of him. He will soon accept you as his leader and even more willing to please you. It will make his training an enjoyable experience for the both of you.
The technique that I have found to get the desired results starts at the large muscle of the shoulder.
A slow, deep, circular motion is required adjusting in pressure to your dog's comfort level. When he accepts this and seems to relax move up the spine from the tail to the top of his head. Make sure the thick muscles of the neck are covered. Be careful of the pressure points and tender tendon areas. Avoid bone areas always. This is a good time to get your dog used to being handles around the ears, teeth, feet and tail.
Nutrition Tip #2
Eggs are a dirt cheap but brilliant nutrition for your dogs!
They are the cheapest source of high quality protein and essential fatty acids you can buy. Eggs are regarded as having the perfect protein.
It is the one against all other proteins are measured. It contains a full compliment of minerals including excellent levels of calcium, all vitamins except C, and a high quality of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. It is a raw food that includes lecithin and a whole range of enzymes and anti-aging longevity factors that are always present in uncooked food.
This is incredible nutrition! I buy 5 dozen for 3.99 at King Soopers.
There isn't any supplement you can buy that will equal one egg at such a great price. I give each dog an egg, crushed up shells and all, every other day.
If you add nothing else to your dog's diet PLEASE add an egg!
Please be well in health and Spirit!
