How To Unlock The Witch’s Hut In Stardew Valley (2025)

Deep in the mountains of Stardew Valley sits the Witch’s Hut, a hidden area locked away by the Wizard to protect the valley, which can be unlocked after finishing a few serious in-game milestones. Unlocking the Witch’s Hut grants access to some of the most useful shrines in the game, allowing you to wipe bad memories and turn your children into doves while providing a convenient portal to teleport through on opposite sides of the map.

To gain entry to the Witch’s Hut, you need to begin a series of quests started by Stardew Valley's Wizard involving Magic Ink, Goblins, and mayonnaise. Most players will likely have only seen the Witch if she happened to visit their farm in a chance overnight occurrence, in which she grants chicken coops a free Void Egg, which might indicate that she’s not all bad.

Requirements For Unlocking The Witch’s Hut

This Late Game Quest Line Has A Few Prerequisites

Getting to the Witch’s Hut may sound simple, but gaining entry requires finishing some monumental tasks before the option is even revealed. First and foremost, you will have to finish the Community Center (or Stardew Valley's Joja Warehouse, if you’re feeling evil), which will likely take until Summer of Year 2 to complete. After Pelican Town has rebuilt a pillar of its community, you can start on the path to the Witch’s Hut by heading up to the railroad tracks to trigger a cutscene with the Wizard.

Stardew Valley is one of the most popular farming sims out there, but there are still certain features missing from the base game that mods can fix.

In this cutscene, the Wizard will explain that he used to be married but drove his wife away and sealed her away behind a magic stone as she had become a vengeful witch. Now, he needs someone to break the seal and retrieve his magic ink from the Witch, which falls to you. After the cutscene ends, you’ll have the ‘Dark Talisman’ quest to break the seal.

The ‘Dark Talisman’ quest is very straightforward, as you’ll just need to head to the Sewers and speak to Krobus, but be sure to bring a sword along with you.

Once there, Krobus will say he did have a talisman once, but he left it in the Mutant Bug Liar, which sounds much scarier than it is. Krobus will unlock the Bug Liar on the left side of the Sewers for you to enter, which is essentially just like a level of the Mines with some weak bugs to slash through.

I prefer a sword here to get through the bugs quickly, but whatever weapon you prefer will work. Following the area up to the north, you’ll find a chest with the talisman inside. Take the talisman back up to the railroad area and use it on the magic seal. The rock will fly away, and you can walk into a new area leading to the Witch’s Hut with a brand-new NPC.

Unfortunately, the path up to the Witch’s Hut is guarded by a Goblin, who lets you know that he can’t let you pass or else he’d lose his job. Thankfully, you’ll only need some Void Mayonnaise to convince the Goblin to let you by since a lost book in the library reveals that Void Mayonnaise is a delicacy to all goblins. Once you’ve handed the Goblin Guard his mayo, he’ll run off and let you pass without issue.

Void Mayonnaise is made from Void Eggs, which coincidentally are usually obtained by the Witch flying over a chicken coop. If you don’t have any Void Chickens yet, Krobus conveniently sells Void Eggs for 5,000g, which makes the black mayo easy to obtain.

After passing the Goblin, you can stroll inside the Witch’s Hut to grab the Magic Ink for the Wizard. The bright purple bottle sits on a table to the left, so it’s hard to miss. Thankfully, the Witch is never inside, so you don’t need to worry about explaining how to break and enter. To bring the Magic Ink to the Wizard, simply walk over the red symbol on the right side of the Hut. This will teleport you to the Wizard’s basement, which allows you to hand the ink over and receive your reward.

The rewards include the Wizard’s buildings, which include various warp obelisks, the infamously expensive Gold Clock, and the Junimo Hut. The end of this quest line in Starew Valley also grants access to the shrines inside the Witch’s Hut, which include a shrine to wipe ex-spouses’ memories, a shrine to turn your children into doves, and a shrine to allow monsters to spawn on your farm at night, which can be toggled on and off.

Managing a farm in Stardew Valley involves proper management of time, energy, and crop selection, enabling players to snowball their personal wealth.

Another reward, though not explicitly stated by the game, is access to the portals between the Witch’s Hut and the Wizard’s Tower. If you have at least four hearts of friendship with the Wizard, then you can zip through the portal in his basement whenever you want, providing instant access to the opposite side of the map. While this is useful, I still prefer to take my horse (and his carrot speed buff) across the valley with me.
