My hair and skin feel several times better than they used to be. I can undoubtedly say that it is due to the inclusion of omega 3 fats daily.

The idea of making a flaxseed butter just likepeanut butter, made a lot of sense and I loved it absolutely when I made my first batch.

After that, I have made various kinds of butter using a combination of other seeds as well. It is much more economical than buying an off-the-shelf bottle from a health food store.

What is Omega-3 & Why do you need it?

Omega-3s are important components of the membranes that surround each cell in your body.

Omega-3s also provide calories to give your body energy and have many functions in your heart, blood vessels, lungs, immune system, and endocrine system.

Despite being an essential fat that we need to survive, the human body cannot make it on its own.

We get the omega-3 fatty acids we need from the foods we eat.

While the main source happens to be Fish, flax and chia seeds are the best source of getting the essential omega 3 fats for vegetarians and vegans.

Top Tip

It is best to use cold-pressed coconut oil (which I highly recommend) as it elevates the flavor profile and you do not need any additional flavoring agents.

I would suggest that you make it in little quantities and resist the temptation to make it in bulk, to get its full health benefits.

Expert Tip

I prefer using thisfood choppermore than a regular mixie jar to make nut or seed butter as the consistency and texture come out much better.

To make flavored butter, you can use a dash of vanilla, cardamom, nutmeg, or cinnamon.

FAQ's

Is Flax Seed Butter Vegan?

If you are making all-natural unsweetened seed butter, then it is 100% vegan.

But if you prefer it sweetened and also sugar-free, then to keep it vegan, use only maple syrup. You can also try jaggery syrup but I have not tried it yet.

What is the shelf life?

Flax seeds tend to go rancid quickly. So it is better if you make it smaller quantities.

I usually make a batch that lasts me for a week or 10 days at maximum.

While you can store it at room temperature itself, I prefer to keep mine on the refrigerator door shelf.

What Oil works best?

I have added cold-pressed coconut oil to make this butter. But you can use any neutral flavored oils like olive, peanut, or sunflower.

You can also even use cold-pressed flaxseed oil if you can get hold of it.

How to choose the best flax seeds?

I use flax seeds almost daily. So I have tried various brands of seeds ranging from worst to good while I struggled to find 'The One' that I can finally settle down with.

After all those attempts I prefer to buy theseFlax Seeds. These seeds store well at room temperature without giving off any weird fish smell and do not go rancid soon as well.
