If you’ve been around here for a while, you know that I have been working hard to simplify our home in the last several months. It’s something that we intentionally started last year and has carried over into 2019.

We’re simplifying in all the ways around here – our work, our routines and rhythms, our clutter, and the products that we use around our home. We’ve switched to cloth napkins (we’ve been cloth diapering since the beginning), we’re paying attention to ingredient lists on our food, and most recently we’ve been able to begin to learn more about using essential oils in our home.

I’ll be totally honest – essential oils have seemed like a mystery to me for so long (and I’m only just beginning to learn about them, so I am definitely not an expert).

I’m so mindful of how things can affect our bodies and frankly, having been pregnant and/or breastfeeding for so long, I am extra cautious for myself. And so, rather than take time to learn about essential oils, I’ve steered clear.

Then Simply Earth reached out to me to try their Essential Oil Recipe Box and I was intrigued. After doing some research about the company – how they source their oils, the educational information they provide, the price point for their oils (because if we’re being fully transparent, that is a real factor in whether or not it is something that I will continue to use AND that I will be able to recommend to you all), and how responsive the brand is to questions, I decided to give it a try.

Our Review

So far, I’ve been able to make three of the recipes – the diffuser blend, the foaming hand soap, and the laundry stain remover roll on. The next on my list is the surface cleaner – I’ve been needing to pick up one of the ingredients for that one and hope to be able to make it in the next week or so.

Diffuser Blend

The diffuser blend was the first thing we made and it was super simple to put together. I’ve been using it almost daily. This one has lemon, nutmeg, and tea tree and it has a woodsy, clean scent.

I think next, I will just use lemon – or maybe add some orange oil to the mix for a fun spring/citrus blend.

Foaming Hand Soap

The next thing we made was the foaming hand soap. This had been on my list for a while – and we actually made some foaming hand soap on our own a couple of weeks prior to getting this box.

It was on my list to make hand soap for our other bathrooms, so this came at the perfect time.

The recipe cards are all so easy and straightforward to understand so following them is simple.

It just goes to show that you don’t have to be super skilled or have a ton of time to create natural, homemade versions of products you use around your home on a daily basis.

We used the fun little sticker label that was included in our box and we’ve been using it since. Truly so easy to put together!Simply Earth Essential Oils Recipe Box (13)

Laundry Stain Remover Roll On

Finally, we made the laundry stain remover roll on with the castile soap, lemon oil, and tea tree oil. Another cleaning supply that came right at the perfect time around here.

Not only am I running out of my regular go-to stain remover (and I’ve been looking for a more natural alternative anyway), but my sweet little babe got marker right on my white shirt the morning I was planning to put this together.

I’m happy to report, it worked like a charm. I rolled in on about 5 minutes before throwing it in the wash like I always do and there were no signs of marker when my shirt came out of the machine.
